The Three Core Value Drivers
- Melt Value: This is the baseline worth of the coin's physical metal content. It is calculated by multiplying the coin's exact weight and precious metal purity by the current live market spot price.
- Numismatic Value: This represents the premium collectors are willing to pay above the raw metal worth. It fluctuates based on historical significance, aesthetics, and total mintage numbers (supply).
- Condition and Grade: Coins are graded on a 1-to-70 scale developed by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) and Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC). Higher grades drastically increase numismatic premiums.
Gold & Bullion FAQ
Gold is considered a safe investment primarily because it is a tangible, globally recognized store of value with a finite supply that cannot be printed or debased by governments. It acts as a form of financial insurance, preserving purchasing power over long periods of time.
Bullion refers to physical, investment-grade precious metals—such as gold, silver, platinum, or palladium—that are refined to a high purity and valued strictly by their weight and metal content. Near bullion (more commonly referred to as semi-numismatic) refers to coins that are valued primarily for their raw metal content, but also carry a slight price markup (premium) because they possess minor historical or collectible appeal
Investment grade gold is physical gold that meets strict, internationally recognized standards of purity, form, and origin, ensuring it is valued strictly for its intrinsic metal content rather than artistic or collectible appeal
